Construction of the very first annular combustor for the GT50 engine is nearly complete and the combustion rig itself is coming along really nicely.
This is all happening at quite a pace. Only last week we demonstrated the injection bodies that take the nozzles, and they have now been tack welded into place.

This is all happening at quite a pace. Only last week we demonstrated the injection bodies that take the nozzles, and they have now been tack welded into place.
Next week they will be fully welded, and with the exception of two parts that are due back from the spinners, the first HX50 annular combustor will be ready to go.
Right now the jig that will be used for the welding is set up, and it’s possible to look inside and see the overlapping sections of the combustor where air bleeds over the internal and external surfaces of the metal to keep it cool. The team are positioning the outer rings and the inner rings to form the very important gap where the actual combustion takes place.
A major component that brings testing of the GT50 engine that much closer.
