A Complete Guide to Customising Your HX50

Imagine owning a helicopter that's as unique as your fingerprint, one that matches your luxury sports car, reflects your personal style, and is configured precisely for your mission requirements.

For most aircraft buyers, customisation means choosing from a handful of preset options. But what if you could design nearly every aspect of your helicopter, from exterior paint schemes to mission-specific equipment?

21 Nov 2025

From unlimited exterior paint options to leather interiors, landing gear choices, mission equipment, and a smart blade-fold system, Hill Helicopters makes configuration both flexible and personal. Even better, you won’t be navigating it alone.

The process begins not at the time of your initial deposit, but closer to completion, ensuring your final choices reflect your most current needs.

  • Timeline: The detailed configuration and selection of all options take place one year prior to your aircraft's delivery date.
  • One-to-One Concierge Service: At this stage, a dedicated member of the Hill team becomes your personal guide. This expert will work directly with you to understand your specific use cases, aesthetic preferences, and operational requirements.
  • The Goal: Our mission is to move beyond a simple options list and co-create a helicopter that perfectly aligns with your vision, whether it's for private leisure, business, or specialized commercial use.

Your Exterior with Unlimited Colour Possibilities

Unlike the automotive world with its handful of colour choices, our custom paint programme offers true freedom. Because each helicopter is painted individually, your options are limitless.

  • Match Your Style: Provide a paint code or swatch to match your helicopter to your favourite sports car, yacht, or private jet.
  • Custom Graphics: Our team can work with you to incorporate intricate designs, logos, or call signs directly into the paint scheme.

Crafting Your Own Interior

The cabin is your command centre and sanctuary. We offer a curated selection of premium materials to create an environment of comfort and sophistication.

  • Leather Options: Choose from a wide variety of high-quality leather colours, from classic black and rich tans to brighter, lighter shades that create a more open and airy feel.
  • Console Configuration: The centre console can also be configured with different colours and finishes to complement your chosen upholstery.

The Wheels vs. Skids Decision

One of the most significant configuration choices you will make impacts both performance and aesthetics. There is no price difference between the wheeled and skid landing gear, but the decision has key operational trade-offs.

  • Wheeled Version: This is the standard for peak performance, offering a faster cruise speed of approximately 140 knots.
  • Skid Version: The skids create more drag, resulting in a cruise speed of around 125 knots. However, this configuration provides the benefit of an additional 15 kg (approx. 33 lbs) of payload.
  • A Permanent Choice: It is critical to note that once your helicopter is built with either wheels or skids, it cannot be converted. This decision is a permanent part of the airframe's configuration.

Mission-Ready Functional Options

Beyond aesthetics and primary performance, we offer a suite of powerful options to enhance your helicopter's functionality for any mission.

  • Blade Folding System: Ideal for storage in narrow hangars or confined spaces. This pilot-operable system allows the blades to be folded back in 5-10 minutes without the need for an engineer.
  • Cargo Hook & Camera System: Available for both the private (HX50) and commercial (HC50) models, the cargo hook option includes the added bonus of a downward-facing camera that displays on the main digital cockpit screen.
  • Universal Mounting System: A truly unique innovation, the airframe features nine universal mounting points integrated into three structural spars on the aircraft's belly. This system provides incredible versatility for attaching external equipment, including: External Cargo Pods, Agricultural Spray Equipment, LiDAR and Surveying Tools Professional Camera Gimbals
  • Additional Options: Our concierge team will also discuss other key options based on your needs, such as emergency pop-out floats for over-water operations.
