A unique characteristic of the HX50 experience is our customer Build School – an immersive program designed not just to deliver an aircraft, but to empower you with unparalleled knowledge and insight.
20 May 2025
While the HX50 is designed and tested to the very latest certification standards, we bring it to market efficiently using amateur build regulations.
This innovative approach legally requires owner involvement, and we’ve transformed this requirement into an empowering educational opportunity within our state-of-the-art factory. The HX50 Build School isn't just about assembly, it's about creating profoundly knowledgeable and confident owner-pilots.
The Core Mission
Our Build School is fundamentally about education. We believe the best way for an owner to truly understand their aircraft – to discern a minor niggle from a significant issue, be it a leak, crack, or vibration – is to be hands-on in its construction. This deep familiarity empowers you to be a more independent, informed, and ultimately safer operator.
Factory-Grade Quality
While you're involved, rest assured that every machine leaving our facility meets the highest build standards. Our certified production facility, complete with CNC machines, kit cutting, casting, jigs, fixtures, and assembly equipment, is overseen by our dedicated engineers, mechanics, and build staff. You'll receive top-tier tuition, support, and oversight, ensuring every aircraft is impeccably airworthy.
The "51% Rule" Demystified
The "amateur build" regulations often mention a "51% build" contribution from the owner. It's crucial to understand this doesn't mean 51% of the entire aircraft's construction from raw materials. Regulatory bodies like the FAA and CAA have specific checklists detailing which tasks contribute to this percentage. The spirit of these rules is recreational and educational. You won't be building engines, rotor heads, transmissions, or complex avionics circuit boards. Your involvement focuses on lower-level assembly activities, all meticulously supervised by our qualified team.
A Comprehensive Learning Experience (Without Needing to be an Engineer)
While you'll be assembling specific parts of your aircraft, the Build School provides a comprehensive education on all its critical systems. We’ll show you how the engines, transmissions, rotor heads, and blades are manufactured and quality-controlled. The program is specifically designed to be accessible and achievable for individuals from all walks of life, with no prior engineering expertise required.
Immersive Build School Programme
The immersive Build School programme is typically completed over two weeks.
A Foundation for Active Safety Management
The knowledge gained during the Build School offers a significant safety advantage, far exceeding the insights from a typical annual proficiency check. This deep understanding of your machine is invaluable.
Furthermore, this educational experience forms a vital part of our broader active safety management system. We actively monitor each aircraft's usage, health, and overall performance – both machine and pilot – allowing us to offer support and intervene if necessary, ensuring the continued safety of our pilots, their passengers, and the aircraft itself.
